HIPAA...
What does it mean for the University?
What does it mean for you?
HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of
1996) is the federal legislation intended to guard personal health
information. Implemented in 2003, the Privacy Regulations of this law
have shaped the way health care services are delivered and health-
related information is preserved.
HIPAA has impacted the University of Connecticut in unique ways—from
how it monitors students’ health records to how specific units within
the University deliver services to a broad spectrum of consumers.
